Control System |
The
digital substation control systems SICAM and
SINUAT LSA provides all control, measurement
and automation functions (e.g. Transformer
tap changing) required by switching station.
They operate with distributed intelligence.
Communication between feeder-located devices
and central unit is made via interference-free
fiber optic connections. Devices are extremely
compact and can be built directly into medium
and high voltage switchgear. To input data,
set and program the system, the unique PC programs
SICAM PlusTools and LSATOOLS are available.
Parameters and values are input at the central
unit and downloaded to the field devices, thus
ensuring error-free and consistent data transfer.

Siemens
is one of the world's leading suppliers of
protection equipment for power systems. For
many years, Siemens has also significantly
influenced the development of protection technology.
Today, Siemens offers a complete program of
protection relays for all applications including
numerical busbar protection. To date more than
200,000 numerical protection relays from Siemens
are providing successful service, as standalone
units in traditional systems or as components
of combined substation protection and substation
control. Meanwhile, the innovative SIPROTEC
4 series has been launched, incorporating many
years of operational experience with thousands
of relays, together with users' requirements. |
| Power
Quality |
It
is common knowledge that voltage depressions
and dips can be very costly for all concerned
because the availability and quality of power
supplies must be top-class if production and
control systems are not to suffer. However,
reality is somewhat different and against the
background of energy market liberalization,
problems with power quality have been growing
in recent years. There are other trends too,
such as the substantially greater number of
converter-fed drives now in use, which have
contributed to a sharp increase in the harmonic
content of mains power supplies, and also the
more widespread use of sensitive loads such
as computer networks. For those involved in
the generation and distribution of electricity,
reducing the reactive power component and the
harmonics in the supply is essential in both
economic and technological terms. That this
will help achieve maximum utilization of plant
and equipment is a significant overall economic
factor. Our measuring and recording instruments
for power quality variables help with the detection
of voltage dips, power failures, voltage overshoot,
harmonics, flicker and their associated trends
so that, by employing automatic analysis, appropriate
means of correction can be identified. |

The satellite Global Positioning System (GPS) distributes precise time, frequency and position worldwide. At a height of about 20,000 km, satellites circle around the earth on different orbits. An atomic clock (accuracy at least 1 x 10 E -12) is running in every satellite whose time is constantlytransmitted together with the orbit data. The GPS-receiver records the data of up to 6 satellites and uses this information to calculate its position. The transmitted orbit data are used to determine the travel time of the signals of the individual satellites. These values form the basis for a very precise GPS-time which is maintained in the system via an adjustable crystal at accuracy of ± 1 µsec. |

With
the DCS 3000 Distribution Line Communication
System, we provide automation technology that
brings together a number of benefits for operators
and customers alike. What is more, DCS 3000
enables you to increase efficiency without
large additional effort - by simply using the
existing power grid. However your medium-voltage
distribution network's architecture looks like,
Siemens is able to offer you the possibility
to transmit data from RTUs or meters to your
control centre. DCS 3000 is based on two main
components, the Basic Unit (BU) and the coupling
devices. |
