Communication / Remote Control

SIPROTEC responds fast to line faults, giving users all the information they need to deal with the problem. Data from the protection relay can even be accessed by office-based users in the form of "fault records" transmitted via a modem and telephone line. This information, together with powerful diagnostic tools for its evaluation, helps users clarify the cause of any line fault quickly and conveniently. Fast fault localization is essential for rectifying problems quickly, thus minimizing costly outages.

RS232 / FO Connectors

An optical connection of protection devices with an electrical (non-isolated) RS232 interfaces, e.g. to a starcoupler, for centralized control is made possible with the fibre optic RS232 connector modules. Thus, further devices such as PC or notebook, modem or serial data switch can be effectively protected against electromagnetic interferences. An appropriate connector module is available for each of the above-mentioned applications.

Modular Starcoupler

With the help of the fibre optic starcoupler, the messages of the relay operating software DIGSI V3 are distributed to all relays via a maximum of 30 fibre optic interfaces. The transmitting port of the starcoupler' s expansion unit is connected to the relay' s receiving port. Every message contains an address so that only the corresponding relay will answer. This relay now sends the answer back to the operator PC via the expansion module' s receiving port and the main module's transmitting port.

Mini Starcoupler

The mini star coupler multiplies an optical signal received at an input for up to four outputs. A signal received at an output is transmitted via the input interface to a central unit or to an upstream mini starcoupler or converter. As the mini star coupler does not transmit selectively to individual outputs, the protocols used for data transmission must operate with unique DTE addresses (e.g. IEC 60870-5-103 or PROFIBUS). Data are transmitted in transparent full-duplex mode. An RS232 interface is provided for diagnostics or for direct serial communication with DTEs. As long as this interface is in use, the optical interface to the central unit is blocked.

LWL-Repeater

The optical repeater 820 nm/1300 nm converts serial information received with a wavelength of 820 nm on multimode fibre to a wavelength of 1300 nm, and vice versa. This allows to connect devices to monomode FO cables that are commonly used for long-distance data communications and thus to transmit serial information with rates between 9.6 kbauds and 1.5 Mbauds interference-free in full duplex mode over distances of up to 14 km. When used in combination with the 7SD51 line differential relay, it allows cost effective bi-directional transmission of serial differential protection data via monomode fibre over long distances. The protection relay is directly coupled to the repeater via the 820 nm optical interfaces.

Active Mini Starcoupler

The Active Mini-Starcoupler with one optical input and four or five optical outputs allow the central or remote communication with devices with serial interfaces using different baud rates and data formats. Using a simple ASCII sequence only one of the available output channels is switched to a transparent full duplex operation. The active mini-starcoupler can be used with any terminal program or for SIPROTEC protection relays with the operating program DIGSI. Each of the input and output channels can be adapted independently to the device attached by adjustable baud rates and data formats. For communication with more than 5 devices the active Mini-Starcoupler can be operated together with a RS485 bus in the half- duplex mode.
Features:

  • One optical input and 4 optical outputs or one RS485 input and 5 optical outputs
  • RS232 interface for local access
  • RS485 interface for bus structure
  • Baud rate and data format can be set independently for each channel
  • Baud rate 1200 Baud - 115 kBaud
  • Data format 8N1, 8N2, 8E1
  • Maximum distance: 1.5 km with 62.5/125 µm multimode fibre.
  • Normal signal position selectable: Light ON / Light OFF

7XV5650

RS485 / FO Converter (1-channel)

The RS485 / FO converter allows to connect up to 32 devices with a bus-enabled electric RS485 interface and provides an optical link up to a central unit or a star coupler. The converter is designed for the use in substations for the interference-free transmission of serial data with rates between 9.6 kBaud and 1.5 MBaud via fibre optic cables. This is the basis for building up cost effective optical data communication bus systems with line or star topology that meet the stringent requirements of substation control and protection systems

7XV5651

RS485 / FO Converter (2-channels)

The RS485 / FO converter allows to connect up to 32 devices with a bus-enabled electric RS485 interface. It provides an optical linkup to a central unit or a star coupler or transmits the information on its second optical interface to other converters. The converter is designed to be used in substations for interference-free transmission of serial data with rates between 9.6 kbauds and 1.5 Mbauds by FO-multimode cable. As it is designed to act as a T coupler, data can be distributed in a ring system, which makes the development of cost effective optical bus systems possible.

7XV5652

RS232 / FO Converter

The RS232 / FO converter is used to convert in full duplex mode serial RS232 signals to FO transmission signals. It has one FO channel each for transmission and receiving, as well as a protected RS232 interface rated to withstand 2 kV discharges which allows it to be directly connected to the serial system interface of SIPROTEC devices. It is designed to be used in substations for isolated, interference-immune transmission of serial signals to a central unit, a star coupler or a PC. When used in combination with the 7SD51 line differential relay in the version with a serial RS232 interface, it allows transmission over distances up to 3 km by multimode fibre optic cables (FO).

7XV5653

Two-Channel Binary Converter

The transducer registers binary information from contacts at two binary inputs and forwards it via fibre-optics cable, interference free to the other transducer, which outputs the signals via its contacts. The two contacts can be used as trip contacts. The transducer provides independent and bi-directional two binary inputs and two contact outputs. The transducer is designed for the use inside substation environment. High security, telegram based serial data transmission is used between the transducers. Transmission errors and a failure of the data link are signaled via an alarm contact, so a permanent supervision of power supply and the data link is included in the transducer.

Communication Converter

The converter is designed for the point-to-point serial communication of SIPROTEC 4 relays 7SA52, 7SA6, 7SD52 and 7SD610 via communication networks. It cannot be used together with the line differential relay 7SD51. For the interference free connection to the protection interface of the relay multimode fiber cables are used. ST - plugs are required on both sides. Towards the communication device a synchronous, electrical X21-interface (64 kBit/s, 128 kBit/s, 512 kBit/s) or a G703.1 (64 kBit/s) interface is provided by the device. All settings are done with jumpers. The converter has a wide range power supply from 24 VDC - 250 VDC or 115/230 V AC, so it can be supplied from the battery used for the protection device or from the battery used for the communication devices (24 / 48 VDC).

Thermobox

The thermobox can be used together with the relays 7UT6, 7UM62 and 7SJ6 for the thermal supervision of machines and transformers. It is connected via its RS485 - interface with an RS485 - interface of the SIPROTEC device. Through optoelectrical converters also an optical 820 nm interface at the relay may be used. The box measures 6 temperature values with PT100 (recommended), Ni100 or Ni120 sensors and send this values to the SIPROTEC device. The device displays this measurement, supervise it and generate alarms if parameterized limits are exceeded. The wiring to the sensors is supervised also. Two boxes can be connected to a SIPROTEC device.
